When you have fibromyalgia (FMS) or lupus Pain, Fatigue, Malaise is the symptoms that become a part of your life. You get a double helping of those symptoms, when you have both fibromyalgia and lupus, in addition to the other symptoms of both conditions.
Because their primary symptoms can be very similar FMS and lupus are both hard to diagnose. People with FMS are sometimes misdiagnosed as having lupus, and vice versa. Diagnosis and treatment becomes complicated because A sizable number of people have both conditions. Consequently, it’s important for those with FMS to be familiar with the symptoms of lupus.
What is lupus?
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes pain and inflammation in different parts of the body. That means your immune system malfunctions and attacks your healthy tissues as if they were a dangerous virus or bacteria. Lupus attacks many different parts of the body but most often targets the skin or internal organs. We have a number of treatment options for lupus, but there’s no cure.
The brutality of lupus varies widely from person to person. Most people with lupus can deal with their symptoms to some degree and don’t face life-threatening complications. In situations where lupus attacks the sin, the largest symptom is a noticeable rash, most often on the face or nose.
Treatment normally involves suppressing the immune system, which slows down the attack on whatsoever parts of your body are involved. In more serious cases, lupus attacks vital organs such as the brain, which kills the patient. However in most cases, early medical involvement allows lupus patients to live healthy, productive lives.

Selena Gomez says at one point that her lupus was literally a matter of “life-or-death.”, although she is doing quite well. Gomez helped raise almost $500,000 In September for lupus research through her appeals to fans via social media, following a kidney transplant.
For the first time in over a year at the 2017 AMAs Just a day after performing Gomez was honored at the Lupus Research Alliance’s Breaking through Gala on Monday night. About her own diagnosis, the pop star delivered a heartfelt speech. She emphasize on the need to raise awareness about the autoimmune disease. She began, according to people I am really honored to be here with all of you guys tonight, my lupus community. I was diagnosed with lupus about five or six years ago, as many of you know or might not know.
Gomez continued that he have been speaking out about her situation to raise awareness about the disease. Her doctors told her that she has lupus nephritis after undergoing so many tests to monitor her kidneys. They told her that there is a complication and she needs a kidney transplant.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, lupus is “a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs.” Organs that may be affected by lupus include the kidneys, heart and lungs. In autoimmune disease your own tissues are attacked by your body and in her case the victim was her kidneys and that why she needed a kidney transplant.
Earlier this year, Gomez revealed that her best friend, Francia Raísa, volunteered to donate her kidney and saved her life in the process.

Over the summer, as Gomez’s battle with lupus worsened and her kidneys started failing, doctors told her she needed a new kidney. Gomez said I had arthritis. My kidneys were shutting down. My mentality was just to keep going. Weeks away from dialysis, Gomez broke down and shared the news with Raisa, her roommate. Raisa said One day she came home, and she was emotional.
I hadn’t asked anything. I knew that she hadn’t been feeling well. “She couldn’t open a water bottle one day and she chucked it and just started crying.” doctor said Finding a donor could take between seven and 10 years. It just vomited out of me,” Raisa said. “I was like, ‘Of course I’ll get tested.
She underwent a full physical and psychological evaluation. She got her blood and urine tested. She was a match, but there would be risks involved with the surgery for both of them. Where my kidneys were just done, she lived with me in this interesting time. Gomez said that was it and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. The thought of asking somebody to do that was really difficult for me.
And she volunteered and did it. The fact that she was a match, I mean, that’s unbelievable.” Raisa had her surgery first, followed by Gomez. “Not everyone is lucky enough to have a donor, and something as monumental as an organ transplant shouldn’t be the best treatment option available. The singer revealed in September that she and Raisa were recovering from the surgery, and on Monday, Gomez credited the actress for saving her life.
“Because she did. That’s it,” she said. “I guess I got to the point where it was really kind of life or death.” As soon as she got the kidney transplant, she said, “My arthritis went away. My lupus—there’s about a 3 to 5 percent chance it’ll ever come back. My blood pressure is better. My energy, my life has been better.” Gomez hopes their story will help others who are on on similar journeys. “I just hope that this inspires people to feel good,” the pop star said, “to know that there is really good people in the world.”
“She said: “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.” Gomez concluded her remarks with a hopeful look toward the future “I’d like to see the day when all young women can realize their dreams of life without a Lupus,” she said.
“This is why I am committed to the Lupus Research Alliance. So that none of us are alone, especially the young women that I have grown up with and heard many, many stories.” “I just want to say thank you and I hope we can do something for all of the younger people who need to know what this means.”
